SCPD E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety Flyer
September 14, 2026
Dear Kings Park Students, Parents and Guardians.
I am reaching out regarding a growing safety concern involving E-bikes and E-scooters. During the past school year, the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) responded to numerous incidents involving these devices, and dozens of children were injured, some seriously. As we begin a new school year, we are working proactively with the SCPD to educate students and parents about the laws, risks, and safe operation of E-bikes and E-scooters before additional preventable injuries occur.
To support this effort, SCPD created an E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety Flyer (see attached) and request that it be shared with students and parents.
SCPD also created a short educational video that reinforces the information contained in the flyer. Unfortunately, the file size is too large to distribute via email, however, the video is available on the SCPD Instagram page, @SCPD_SRO. To download the video, click the share button on the post, scroll to the right, and select the download option.
As a reminder, District Policy 3290 prohibits the use of motor-driven vehicles, including snowmobiles, mini-bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV's) and other such vehicles on school grounds. The only exception is at the high school where student vehicles that legally provide passage to/from school are permitted but must be registered with the High School Principal and parked in authorized areas only.
Thank you in advance for reviewing these materials.
