KPCSD Important Weather Update
February 22, 2026
Good afternoon Kings Park.
The biggest snow in at least four years is coming our way later today into Monday. The Governor has issued a State of Emergency for both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the National Weather Service and Suffolk County OEM Weather (see attached) have both issued a Blizzard Warning for our area… something we rarely experience. This means that we will likely experience an extended period with winds at least 35 mph and visibility at or below 1/4 mile in snow and blowing snow. Accumulations across the island will likely be a foot or more with significantly higher snow drifts.
That being said, Kings Park Schools will be closed Monday, February 23rd for in person instruction. As I previously communicated, we had one traditional snow day built into this year’s calendar, which we already used. While we recognize that online learning is less than ideal for some learners, tomorrow (Monday) will be an online learning day. All students should engage in instruction through our Google platform. Providing remote learning allows us to “count” the day as a school day and maintain a full spring recess.
The SCOPE 4-year-old UPK Program will not operate tomorrow (Monday).
Please see the attached PDF, or visit our website and review our district’s online learning plan. To access the plan on our website, you can either click on THIS LINK or navigate to www.kpcsd.org, then click on “Departments,” then “Superintendent,” and lastly “Inclement Weather and Emergency eLearning Instructional Plan 2025-26.”
Our principals will each send out a more detailed school-specific message later today with additional details. Again, we are sending out these communications well in advance so that we can all prepare for what tomorrow will look like.
We will evaluate conditions on Monday and update you if there is a need to modify the day for Tuesday. If the current forecast comes to fruition, we may need additional time for snow removal before we can safely open our schools. Again, more information to follow.
Be safe.
Timothy Eagen
Superintendent of Schools
